Mets' Max Scherzer 's Jupiter Purchase Price Revealed as $15M - The Real Deal

The Mets’ star pitcher Max Scherzer scored a waterfront teardown in Admirals Cove for $14.9 million, bringing his spending in the gated Jupiter community to $24.7 million.

Records revealed the latest purchase price for Scherzer and his wife, Erica Scherzer. They bought the house on Commodore Drive from Robert and Winifred Smylie.

Lori Schacter of Illustrated Properties had the listing, and Holly Meyer Lucas of Compass brought the buyer.

Robert Smylie, a retired newspaper publisher, and Winifred Smylie first listed the home for $18 million in November. The 7,200-square-foot, five-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom house was built in 1990 on 0.7 acres, records and the listing show. It was advertised in the listing as a building opportunity with 325 feet of waterfront.

Scherzer is one of Major League Baseball’s biggest names. The three-time Cy Young Award-winning pitcher started his career in 2008, and has since played for the Diamondbacks, the Tigers, the Nationals and the Dodgers. The Mets signed him to a record-breaking three-year, $130 million contract in late 2021, which works out to an average annual salary of $43.3 million.

His career earnings from contracts are estimated at $370 million, according to multiple outlets.

Flush with cash, Scherzer is doubling down on South Florida real estate. His latest purchase is across the street from the waterfront mansion he bought for $9.8 million in 2020.

Built in 2018, that mansion spans 8,000 square feet, five bedrooms, six bathrooms and two half bathrooms, records show. The 0.7-acre property includes 120 feet of waterfront. 

Meyer Lucas previously told The Real Deal that the Scherzers plan to build a new home on the latest Commodore Drive property, and list their current house with her. That home has not yet been listed, Redfin shows. 

Scherzer’s neighborhood of choice, Admirals Cove, is a boating-oriented gated community that has drawn high-profile residents over the years, including Donald Trump Jr. and Kimberly Guilfoyle

Scherzer isn’t the first Admirals Cove resident to buy out his neighbor, either. In September, billionaire Ronald Clarke bought the waterfront mansion adjacent to his Admirals Cove estate for $15.7 million

More recently, a former Miss Pennsylvania and her husband sold their waterfront home for $9.9 million in March. In February, aviation heir John Purdy Jr. bought a waterfront house for  $13.8 million
