TikToker rants against price of McDonald's at Connecticut rest stop - CT Insider

Big Macs weren't the only big things that a TikToker saw on the menu of a Connecticut McDonald’s.

TikTok user and Georgia resident Gerald Cambor, who is known as Xcon Media online, posted a video of himself being shocked when he saw that the prices of a McDonald’s combo meal menu items exceed $16 at a service station on Interstate 95. The video has gotten over 145,000 views since it was posted on March 16.

"Well, well, well. So I'm up here in Connecticut, right? Does anyone see the prices of these combo meals? The price of a Big Mac combo meal, $16.89," Cambor said during the video. "Y'all remember them stimulus checks that they gave out? Y'all thought you were getting away with that stimulus money, they want it back."

Prices at service stations often exceed those at regular McDonald’s restaurants. While a Big Mac combo meal is $16.89 at an Interstate 95 rest stop in Darien, the same combo meal is only $9.79 at the nearby restaurant at 26 Belden Avenue in Norwalk.

In Cambor's home city of Atlanta, Georgia the price of a Big Mac combo meal at most restaurants is $8.49 to $8.99, according to the McDonald’s app.

McDonald's has been increasing its prices alongside inflation, with Big Mac prices up by 7 percent, fries up by around 25 percent and McChicken up around 28 percent from 2019, according to Yahoo! Finance. In 2022, the restaurant chain reported a 10 percent increase in retail sales and a 5 percent increase in guests, according to its fourth-quarter financial report. The company credited some of its profits to price increases.

"Comparable sales results benefited from strategic menu price increases and positive guest counts. Successful menu and marketing campaigns, such as the Cactus Plant Flea Market promotion and McRib, and continued digital and delivery growth contributed to strong comparable sales results," the report read.
