Polish households are facing a 180% increase in electricity prices next year, the country’s energy regulator warned, calling for government action to both shield consumers and impose windfall taxes on utilities.
The government should do everything possible to prevent such a “drastic” increase in prices, Rafal Gawin, the head of the Energy Regulatory Office, wrote in a letter sent to a number of state institutions, including the prime minister’s office, in early June. The correspondence was first published by the Oko.press portal and its key contents have been confirmed by the watchdog.
